If you are new to home based business marketing, you are probably being faced with a whole slew of methods that simply won’t work. The old-school way of internet MLM marketing simply won’t work anymore, because these methods were developed when the internet was in its infancy and what worked then isn’t applicable anymore.

It’s just like anything having to do with computers: think of how different your computer was back in 1999. Now think of the setup you have now. A lot has changed, right? Well, it’s the same way with the network marketing system: what worked a decade ago is not even relevant anymore.

Stop Recruiting Friends and Family

First, you need to stop trying to recruit your friends and family. Trying to “guilt” friends and relatives into buying into your company used to be the backbone of network marketing recruiting. But there are three reasons why this doesn’t work:

•    It puts an unnecessary strain on personal relationships, as your loved ones either don’t want to commit to your new company or cannot commit due to a lack of time, lack of funding, or lack of experience;
•    If your friends and relatives do  sign up, there’s a better-than-average chance they don’t have a background in sales and won’t be able to bring in a lot of money without a considerable amount of training;
•    It mixes the personal with business, which is rarely a good idea.

Focus on Finding a Mentor

Rather than frittering your time on recruiting friends and family members, you should direct your thoughts “up.” When I was a kid, my father used to tell me that I should pick a “rabbit” to follow in school. This means you focus on someone who is a high achiever and pattern your behavior on his.

You need to develop a relationship with a mentor who can train you in proven methods for expanding your MLM business.I found that kind of mentorship with a friend of mine who is a builder/developer. Now that I have succeeded in my field, I can be your “rabbit,” and you can pattern your business after mine so you can prosper too.
