When I first began my network marketing business opportunity, I had a lifetime of business experience behind me. I come from a family of entrepreneurs; in fact, I worked in the family business until we sold the first branch in 1999 and the second branch in 2003.

After that I went into real estate until the bubble burst, then I was introduced to the network marketing system by a business acquaintance. My first year was pretty good because I was able to call on all of my business training, but I knew the time would come when I finally would run out of leads.

The School of Hard Knocks

Growing up, my family owned a business that created telephone directories for two states. Later on, we sold the family business and I moved into real estate. After gaining a huge amount of wealth in that sector, I lost everything when the bottom fell out of the real estate market.

It was then that I turned to network marketing and, with the help of my mentor, built another successful business. A few years ago, I decided to start running. I am 6’5″ and weighed over 400 pounds at that time. Needless to say, I didn’t run a marathon right off the bat. But I did develop my skills as a runner consistently over the years, losing over 100 pounds in the process. My first year as a runner, I ran 33  races mostly 5K -10K  distances. That training and the support I received from my fellow runners enabled me to achieve my dream: running a marathon. I did my first half-marathon in 2009 and now I can’t wait to do more.

Well, just like training for a marathon, you will need to start your network marketing internet business with a plan. I didn’t immediately start running a marathon when I was overweight. It took years of training for me to reach my goal.

As I mentioned above, the help and support of my fellow runners also helped me reach my goals. Once you hire a mentor to help you start your business, he will introduce you to an entire group of network professionals who can encourage you as you develop your company. They can give you advice and support, just like I received tips from my fellow runners, honing my technique so I could run my first half-marathon.

Before you set foot on the track, get your plan for running a successful race in place. Hire your trainer so that you have a game plan, and rely on your network of professional support for encouragement and tricks of the trade. In no time you will be running a successful business!
